Rescue by Texarkana Policeman Leads to National Recognition

Jun 28 2013

A daring rescue by a Texarkana, Arkansas policeman early last year has led a national charity organization to reward his act of heroism. Officer Peyton Harris' selfless act happened in February 2012, when he put his life on the line to save a woman who was trapped in a burning house.

The REACH Foundation has recognized Officer Harris and made a generous donation to the Texarkana Police Department. Mark Wilson, co-founder of REACH, presented a check to TAPD for $7,500 to support and help continue their programs of “Shop With A Cop” and P.R.I.D.E. Program in honor of Harris. For the past nineteen years, Texarkana police have provided a shopping spree for 100 children as part of the "Shop With A Cop" program.

Mark Wilson says he "praises the work the Texarkana Police Department is doing to help children in need, children who have lost hope, and show them there is hope and there are people who care about them."
